May 2020 came as a whirlwind for Madushani and Alex. Not three months into the pandemic, Madushani graduated from medical school, Alex proposed, and they began planning to move to San Antonio for Madushani’s residency.
Even with the changes on the horizon and the growing concerns of the pandemic, Madushani and Alex knew they didn’t want to wait long to say “I do.” And luckily for them, an intimate wedding was their dream wedding. A quiet, meaningful ceremony surrounded by immediate family and close friends was all they needed to commit their lives and love to one another.
They chose to host their ceremony at Hotel Emma, a converted 19th-century brewhouse situated alongside the river in San Antonio’s Pearl District. Charming and historic, Hotel Emma offered them a cozy, romantic courtyard that was perfect for their small gathering. Vines blanketed the old brick walls while string lights and candles supplemented the evening light streaming through the tall windows. Against a backdrop of rustic bricks and greenery, Madushani and Alex said their vows.
For their invitations, Madushani and Alex wanted a simple, rustic design that matched their décor and wedding colors (forest green and gray). Madushani loved daisies, which were used in the bouquets and boutonnieres. We designed an invitation that featured original, hand-drawn daisies mixed with dark green foliage. To bring in the rustic flair, we added a gate card embossed with a wood texture. We then tied in the wedding colors with gray envelopes and forest green envelope liners.
Even though Madushani and Alex loved the idea of an intimate wedding, they missed the many friends and family who couldn’t be invited due to the pandemic. Wanting to include their extended community in a special way, they asked to create a folded wedding announcement that contained a loving message on the inside. In addition, they added a small advice card with a return envelope along with the announcement. That way, the family and friends who couldn’t be invited could still be part of Madushani and Alex’s wedding day.
After the ceremony, Madushani and Alex enjoyed a special evening with dinner and a little dancing surrounded by those they loved the most.
